The Most Gorgeous Tile Ever

Hello dear readers. Sometimes the internet is like tumbling down the rabbit hole. I'm looking for one thing and it leads to another and another until I end up on a tile and woodwork site at 1am, lost to anyone in my household who may need my assistance. Last night I found Tabarka Studio and fell in love with their astonishing collections of tile and wood flooring. It's pretty dreamy... and pretty pricey, I imagine. But what the hell... a girl can dream, right?

Check out Tabarka Studio on Instagram and see these tile installations in action!

Spicy Stripes at West Elm

I am in love with West Elm's new Morocco Collection.  I love the stripes and I love the colors - spicy hues of cardamom, cinnamon, curry, chile, nutmeg, clove, fennel, saffron, etc.  I may have to stop by my local West Elm today and see them in person!

Chevron Tile

I realize that the chevron pattern is old hat in the design world, but I love it.  I love love love love love it.  My favorite use of this famous, age-old zigzag pattern is when laid down as tile.  If I had the dough, I'd use it in my bathroom on the floor and shower.  It would also be beautiful as a wrap-around back splash in my kitchen or as flooring for our covered back patio. Where would you use it?

Pattern Under Foot

Its a gray, damp Tuesday and I'm at home with my kiddos in our pajamas.  Despite the weather, I am cheered - as always - by my home.  As I look around the house, the thing that cheers me the most, besides the great company, is the eclectic mix of pattern.  The only place that lacks big pattern is the floor.  Most of my area rugs are a solid color or if they do have pattern, they're on the small side.  I'm always drawn towards ethnic weaves, but I also love a bold floral print every once in a while.  I'm definitely inspired by the area rugs in the photos below.

If these walls could talk...

My home was built in 1971.  There is nothing special about my walls.  Their construction and their history is pretty mundane.  But the walls in the photos below have a story to tell that begins well before the Nixon administration.  If these walls could talk, I wonder what they'd say.

Turquoise Pop in the Kitchen

Interior design and decor is all about delighting the senses in one way or another.  And your kitchen, while more utilitarian than most spaces in your home, is the perfect opportunity to create delight.  Of course you have the sight and smell of wonderful food, coffee, etc - but you also have the opportunity to create visual impact and delight with color.  To create a sense of play, humor and delight, I always love a pop of turquoise in the kitchen.

Black and White Tile Floors

I might never leave home if I had a bath tub like the one pictured below.  If this room were in my home, I'd extend that amazing black and white tile out into the entire house.  I don't think I've ever seen a tile shape quite like this.  Its stunning.

I also love the tile used below in this ante-room.  Its perfect for a little sun room or indoor patio.  Again, I'd extend it into the rooms that flank each side.  Its so beautiful and I imagine, cool on the feet - just the thing for a hot spring and summer in Texas.

Layers on the Floor

Dress up your floors by layering rugs upon rugs and patterns upon patterns.  Its a sure-fire way to warm up your space and invite the eye to travel around the room.  A few floor pillows will also enhance the feel.  I love the look of the spaces below:

Red Rug

Usually don't go in for traditional Persian and Oriental rugs, but these photos have me thinking otherwise. I love the warmth and vibrant energy they lend to these spaces. I found one that I might consider for my house at IKEA. Its pictured at the bottom.
