Blue & Red

If I have to choose one color in isolation as an all-time favorite, then turquoise takes the trophy. However, when it comes to pairings, I love Indigo and red. My entire dining room is comprised of these colors as is much of my artwork.

As often happens, while floating link to link, in the wee hours of the night, I found Cabana Magazine's Instagram feed via My Favorite and My Best. It's a glorious collection of imagery, but I also noticed that they heavily feature my blue and red! Dreamy. Here's a taste...

Home Tour | Artist Isabelle de Borchgrave

Today, we're going to take a peek inside the home of Belgium artist Isabelle de Borchgrave. Textiles and pattern are her muse in the studio and also in her home. Many of her art pieces and projects revolve around recreating exquisite, life-size historical costumes and fabrics entirely out of paper. For instance, THESE extraordinary Medici era dresses. Amazing, right? Here is Isabelle in her studio:

Her home is a fascinating and colorful explosion of fabric, artifacts and art. I love her curated sense of style and her bold use of red, a favorite of mine! And check out her trompe l'oeil writing desk papered from top to bottom!  Just incredible.

I love seeing how artists live. Don't you?

Mustard Midcentury Love Seat Part II

A few months ago I picked up a midcentury love seat from a neighbor on impulse. It used to be a part of a set and its original yellow upholstery is still very much in tact. It's really comfortable as well. For a few months I had it tucked away in my bedroom, not quite knowing what to do with it. But this month I moved it out into our living room. Does it match my brown Craig's List sofa? No. But that's alright. My goal is never that things match, but rather that they play nicely together.

Red White & Blue From India

Happy fourth of July everyone! Last month, I hosted a giveaway for Novica.com, a beautiful website associated with National Geographic filled with handmade goods from across the globe. One of the items that I showcased was THIS bright red cotton throw, made by the UMBVS (Urmul Marusthali Bunkar Vikas Samiti) Desert Weavers of India. As a thank you, they sent me one!  Its so beautiful and well made and even came with a gorgeous hand written card written in Hindi. When I opened the box, it smelled lightly of incense. I love the white accent stripes and cobalt blue embroidery. I could easily use it as a tablecloth, a blanket for my bed or even a rug. Here it is in my home:

Bedding:
sheets from Target
throw pillow from IKEA
pick-stich quilt second hand purchase from neighbor

And just for fun here are my boys in bed after shooting the new bedding:
