Terracotta

Terracotta, which means "baked earth", is one of the oldest most beautiful materials on the planet.  It's also one of my favorite colors.  Living in Texas, I have ample opportunity to enjoy this color because of the influence of Mexican art and architecture.  I just love it.  Its earthy, dynamic, sensual, neutral and looks good on the walls, on the floors, on the furniture and on you.

Guest Post - Fabulous K

Today is my last day away from La Maison Boheme and is also the final guest installment of the dream big backyard series.  Thank you to all my sister-blogger-friends who've allowed me to spend the week focused on tending to my baby Charlie during his surgery and recovery.  Today, please welcome Kelly of Fabulous K.  My question to Kelly?  "How would your backyard space look and feel if money were no object."

Hello La Maison Boheme readers! I am thrilled to be guest blogging for Sarah while she's taking care of her sweet boy!  Sarah's topic is so much fun; I've enjoyed putting together my perfect backyard space.  If money were no object then I'd be all about the waterfront property, complete with a pool. Waking up to waves in the morning, lounging by the pool during the day; I can't imagine anything better!

Of course I'd have to jazz up the pool area with some
bright pops of color, bold pattern and crisp, clean, white.

So what do you think?
Would you come for a visit to my dream backyard?
A girl can dream, right?

xo,
Kelly

Thank you Kelly! Tomorrow, I'll be back with a special

Hanging Basket Chair

I would love to find something like this for my back patio.  I could easily hang it by a rope from the beam that runs the length of my covered patio.  Some throw pillows.  A book.  I'm set.  Now if I could only find a way to keep the mosquitoes at bay.

Or maybe I'll just hang it from a tree and let the Ivy take over!

Librophilia

Hi.  My name is Sarah and I'm a librophiliac... or is it librophile?
I guess that I bleed books and I love books!

And on a personal note:

Whenever I'm redecorating the house, or taking on a home improvement project, you can usually bet that my Mom is in town.  She is always suiting up in a pair of old jeans, grabbing the paint brush, the caulking gun or some other bit of equipment and busting out her mad skills.  Without her, I would be living in filth - I wouldn't know how to snake my pipes, or edge a window, or grout, or plaster, or do anything really.  So Mom, thank you for all you do and continue to do - I love you and hope you have a WONDERFUL 60th birthday!

Here's the birthday girl on her farm in Eastern Oregon:

Autumn color and a giveaway winner!

There is a tree behind our house that always has beautiful foliage, but just this week it suddenly turned bright red.  It's absolutely gorgeous.  The red leaves are blowing all over the neighborhood and it makes me giddy to see them tumbling around.  Fall can be so glorious.

The winner of the HerbstKind art print giveaway is Alison.

Autumn Breeze

Yesterday was a brilliantly breezy day in Dallas and this morning as I write, its 55 degrees.  In honor of this welcomed shift I want to introduce some beautiful fall color into my home.  Home decor and design is one of the easy ways for me to mark the changing seasons with my family.  And I'm not talking about decorating the mantel with pumpkins or little Mayflower replicas.  I enjoy changing the entire look and feel of my home. Sometimes this simply involves re-arranging the furniture, pulling out some of my darker autumn and winter decor.  Today, I'll tuck away the brighter objects and floral prints for next spring and re-introduce some rust colored velvet pillow covers, a few beautiful pieces of dark pottery and clear the decks for Fall.  What do you do to mark the changing seasons in your home?

Orange Velvet

Maybe its because Autumn is underway. Maybe its because I'm thinking about my son's Halloween costume. Maybe its because I miss that terrible orange velour sofa that inhabited my college roommate's bedroom. Whatever the reason, I'm definitely feeling the orange velvet today. Just imagine the possibilities.
