Short Stories

I love reading.  Reading is what made me want to be a writer.  I used to read a lot, but since becoming a mama, I've had less and less time to sit down with a big juicy novel.  And even if I had the time, I don't have the focus for a particularly long thought arch.  Isn't that sad?  This is why I've recently started reading short stories again.  I love the short story form and there are so many good ones out there.  Are you looking for some short fiction too?  Here are my picks...

Thank you today for this beautiful post....not only did you entice us with some interesting reads but you provided us with a visual feast of some beautiful libraries.

Jo

P.s. I'm more of a reader of novels now....rather than short stories...wish I could give you a new read...but I don't know of any right at the moment...but I might try a few of the ones you have listed.

What a perfectly thoughtful and elegant post. books are indeed things of beauty we moms can't seem to read enough of.
But short fiction is a great quick fix, almost an antidote to perk up an addled brain ;)
I love all these tattered orientals and tomes galore.

In other fodder, I've awarded you a Stylish Blogger Award.
It's a bit like a bloggy chain-letter, I've found, so don't feel obligated to play along. I'm happy just to have you up at Nero.

If you'd like to snag the button for your site, you can check it out here:

I was just looking for some new reading material- thanks for the list!

Funny- I also have a fondness for library photos. They say a lot about their owners. Give me an afternoon and I would be excited to spend it in our main public library's art section!

I'm a big fan of Gabriel Garcia Marquez writing, but my favourite are novels...
I do remember some of his short stories that made my imagination alive... the one about fallen angel and the one about cruel mother selling her daughter to strangers...
Actually, he incorporates lots of "storytelling" in his novels as well

I read a book of short stories by Amy Bloom not too long ago that I enjoyed. I love that bookshelf in the hallway above. I'm a built-in whore!

Jhumpa Lahiri has another short story book (of course I can't remember the title!) But it is every bit as good as "interpreter of maladies."

Lovely post!!

How did I miss this? Seriously, a gorgeous post. And not that it's at all short but I had to comment on my affinity for GGM- Love in the Time of Cholera is my favourite book of all time-he's brilliant. I've never really been a short story kind of girl- prefer the long drawn out variety but I might need to give this a try- between parenting/blogging/life, not much time to read these days:(
