Road Trip - Cathedral of St. Francis in Santa Fe

Day two of our trip to Cedar City, Utah!  It was a windy, windy day in Santa Fe and the skies were smoky from nearby grass fires.  The weather was cool, though, a nice change from yesterday's 108 degrees. Our favorite stop in Santa Fe was easily the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi.  Constructed in 1869, the cathedral lies just off of Santa Fe's historic plaza.

We took a little detour into a chapel adjacent to the main worship space.  There was a beautiful representation of St. Anthony of Padua.  Walker and Jack lit a candle for Charlie's good health and full recovery. We're not Catholic, but with Charlie's upcoming surgery, we're appealing to God in all of his forms.

In the basilica's courtyard we found this inspiring sculpture of St. Francis.

Road Trip - Dallas to Amarillo

My husband took a job this summer at the Utah Shakespeare Festival as a voice and speech coach.  This will be his fourth season!  Instead of splitting up our family for 7 weeks while he fine tunes the sounds of Shakespeare, we are all going together this year!  Yesterday, we packed our car and headed west.  Walker, my three year old, slept for the better half of the drive.  Too bad, because he missed out on some really pretty scenery:

 

We didn't hop out and look around because it was 108 degrees.  Ay, ay, ay!

Today should be much more eventful, we're headed to Santa Fe for a day of exploring and sight seeing!  I told Walker that we were going to Santa Fe and he perked up.  "Santa's Face?" he asked!  Does he live there?  You never know, he might be there on summer vacation.

Sarah Saw Something

I know that this isn't from the past week, but I saw it this week for the first time, which means it makes the list!  Olivia Kanaley of A Field Journal, recently took a trip through Central California (my home territory) and compiled this lovely booklet with gorgeous photos from the trip.

Whenever I'm redecorating the house, or taking on a home improvement project, you can usually bet that my Mom is in town.  She is always suiting up in a pair of old jeans, grabbing the paint brush, the caulking gun or some other bit of equipment and busting out her mad skills.  Without her, I would be living in filth - I wouldn't know how to snake my pipes, or edge a window, or grout, or plaster, or do anything really.  So Mom, thank you for all you do and continue to do - I love you and hope you have a WONDERFUL 60th birthday!

Craig's List Again

Last weekend, I picked up this little tufted bench to serve as our new coffee table!  This bench joins our existing fleet of Craig's List purchases for the living room, which include our sofa, our matching barrel back chairs, three end tables and a lamp.  (We're still way under 1,000 dollars for all the furniture in our living room!) The glass table that was previously in place was a hand-me-down that didn't quite fit the space.  It also posed a hazard for the little ones who inhabit our home.  Its a dark teal green in velvet with nail head trim - Pier One, I think.  Anyhow, here she is - pretty to look at and safe for little noggins.
