Last weekend, I attended a small wedding in the Oregon countryside. The bride and groom hosted a fiesta style potluck reception and decorated the surrounding landscape with Mexican paper flags, flowers and filigree. It was a great party.
I love the look of left over party remnants once the celebration is over. The band has packed up, the recycling has been hauled out and the happy couple are on some open highway speeding towards their new life together. All that remains are a few garlands and a spray of paper flowers. You can tell something lovely happened here, but you're not sure what.

Just because I only recently learned this...those flags are called Papel Picado
I've been calling them flags/banners for ages!
