Zinc Supplement

I saw a table the other day that was covered with a zinc top.
Now I really really want one.  Are they easy to clean and care for?

I love the zinc. The 2nd image is really nice. I love all the textures. Here in Newport, we have a fabulous store and restaurant called the Zinc Cafe. You would love it!

"Flitz" is what you would use to clean it, Amazon sells it. Also you should know that zinc is NOT considered a "food-safe-surface" which means that the zinc can dissolve into acidic foods such as if you were to cut tomatoes on it. Good luck!!

Another GREAT source for zinc is at Bastille Metal Works. I have been watching him create amazing things over the last couple of years, beautiful stuff to look at...pretty sure it all costs a pretty penny too!

We have a zinc countertop and backsplash in our kitchen around the sink. We love it. We use a cutting board as we would on any countertop. But the more that happens to the surface the better the "patina".

We happen to not use chemical cleaners so usually just wipe clean with a sponge and occasionally rub with some mineral oil. Many metal cleaners they sell specifically for appliances are basically mineral oil. You can buy food grade mineral oil at the pharmacy for much less money.

Very easy to care for, just don't mind the staining, watermarks etc...it part of the look. For protection, you may want to use wax to give it some shine and protection against rust.

Loving the zinc! Just my kind of rustic-industrial look. Gorgeous images as always!

Thanks Kris for the plug for Bastille Metal Works. That is my husband's creation and while I may be biased, it is beautiful to look at ...and not surprisingly, we have zinc and pewter throughout our home. With three children, zinc wears extremely well and takes a beating. Our dining room table is a beautiful farm house table that endures play-do, markers and the like along with the usual family dining room table wear and tear. Cleaning is simple.. I use simple green daily and once a month or so clean it with Brasso. The table has so much character and it still looks beautiful. If you like the zinc, do check out Bastille Metal Works for a treat!!
