Artists Martyn Thompson & Dove Drury Hornbuckle

I happened into an article in NY Magazine from 2015 that caught my eye. It was a tour of the home of photographer and textile designer, Martyn Thompson. He shares his home with his partner, artist Dove Drury Hornbuckle. The first image below is of their living room. The mural is by Hornbuckle and the textiles by Thompson. Looks to me like a marriage made in boho heaven. Here's a sampling of their home, art and photography.

Last summer, I found a marvelous Kantha cloth at Tuesday Morning. I thought I would use it on the end of my bed or as a curtain, but instead, I think I'd like to make a coat or a vest. Take a look at the beautiful designs below. I love statement pieces like these!

 

Knitting in the Margins

I've been in rehearsals for four weeks now at USF. My time has been divided between learning lines and blocking and caring for my little ones. There isn't much time for other pursuits, although I have had a chance to knit during those in between moments.

Waiting in the wings for my scenes provides a great opportunity to knock off a few rows. Knitting is the perfect back stage activity because I can keep my head up and my ears open. Books are entirely too absorbing and I could easily miss a cue. This summer I foresee a lot of knitting.

Almost done. 

Off to the knitting store for more yarn!

Home Tour | Artist Isabelle de Borchgrave

Today, we're going to take a peek inside the home of Belgium artist Isabelle de Borchgrave. Textiles and pattern are her muse in the studio and also in her home. Many of her art pieces and projects revolve around recreating exquisite, life-size historical costumes and fabrics entirely out of paper. For instance, THESE extraordinary Medici era dresses. Amazing, right? Here is Isabelle in her studio:

Her home is a fascinating and colorful explosion of fabric, artifacts and art. I love her curated sense of style and her bold use of red, a favorite of mine! And check out her trompe l'oeil writing desk papered from top to bottom!  Just incredible.

Woven Textiles | Layer it On

A smattering of boho textiles for a Wednesday morning? Yes, please. Honestly, when my home needs a pick-me-up, layering woven textiles is my go-to decorating trick. Pillows, rugs, tapestries, window treatments and wall hangings are the quickest and least permanent way to spiff up your space. And to prove my point, I submit the evidence below:

Houzz Tour | Ben & Sarah Willson

One of the many perks of working freelance with Houzz.com is that I get to meet bright, engaging, creative people. A few weeks ago, I interviewed artist, craftswoman and designer Sarah Wilson about her new home in Waxahachie, Texas. Her stylish house, which she shares with husband Ben and daughter Goldie is a breezy, modern oasis deep in the heart of Texas cattle country.

Sarah comes from a large family, and her goal for the house was to create an open layout with a studio where she could produce her jewelry line, Sarah Briggs. The new build was completed last month and took four years to complete. Here are some of my favorite images from our photo shoot. But be sure to go HERE and read the full article.
