Hogarth + Doc Martens = Fun

The favorite rebel shoe of punks past and present is the Doc Marten combat boot. I myself, have owned a few pair. This month, Doc Martens has released a new series in collaboration with Sir John Soane's Museum on Hogarth's most famous art series, "A Rakes Progress". I love the satchel, but I think I might need the boots! You can see it all HERE.

Sexy Angsty Dance Party Wednesday

Photographer / artist David LaChapelle has created a beautiful short film of Russian ballet bad boy, Sergei Polunin, dancing his ass off to Hozier's "Take Me to Church". It's kind of wonderful, in a gratuitous emotive way, so I thought I'd share it here. You're welcome.

Culture Maps | Books, Music and Movies

I love getting book recommendations from friends. One of my favorite ways to start a conversation is, "Well, if you liked that book, then you'll definitely want to check out..." A friend of mine just turned me on to a website that recommends movies, music and books based on your preferences.

You enter the title of a band, movie, or book into the respective search, and the results produce a cloud of answers. The closer the clusters are to the center, the greater chance you’ll like them. The closer any two names are, the greater chance someone will like them both. It's kind of brilliant. Give it a whirl!

Here were my results based on Joni Mitchell in the music category,
"Raising Arizona" for the movie category and
Gabriel Garcia Marquez in the literature category.

The Deeper Business of Beauty

If we did not know Lupita before, we all know Lupita now. Having just won best supporting actress for her break-out role in 12 Years a Slave, she has catapulted from her graduation from the Yale School of Drama into the stardom stratosphere. She is a spectacular talent. And she is also on a mission. Please watch the video clip below - it is a speech she gave at the Black Women in Hollywood Awards hosted by Essence Magazine.

Now let us rejoice...

Howard's End

Last night my husband and I watched Howard's End for the umpteenth time.  It is quite possibly my favorite film of all time.  Its right up there with Tender Mercies and Harold and Maude.  I haven't read the book, which is a shame, because I've always meant to.  I'll add that right now to my 2012 reading list.  Anyhow, today's post is inspired by the incredible artistry of the film.  Enjoy...

Sarah Saw Something

It's time for another installment of Sarah Saw Something, where I share little odds and ends that I found interesting around the blogosphere this week.

This home is awesome (via Bliss).  The architecture is fun, rustic, modern and perfectly frames the environment that surrounds the home.

This week, I found a beautiful blog (I'm sure I'm the last one to know about it) called Miss Moss.  I was totally captivated by these beach photos from the gahetNA National Archives.  Here are two of my favorites. Click HERE to see more.

Last night my husband showed me this beautiful video from GetUp.org and I can't stop watching it.  We all know it's time.
