In the Kitchen Today

Today, I'm in the kitchen making a homemade bean soup for my family.  We're battling the winter sickies and its pretty cold outside. I've got two boys feeling under the weather and they'll need something warm and savory to see them through the day.  What is your favorite thing to cook up when the weather turns frigid and immune systems go on strike?

I saw this cute kitchen conversion table at JPM yesterday and thought I'd share.
I need this reference sheet on my kitchen wall or tucked inside a cabinet door.

Bean soup sounds perfect. I also go the traditional route with chicken soup and crusty bread.

Sarah- check this out- it reminded me of you: http://inspirationsdeco.blogspot.com/2012/01/un-loft-vintage-londres.html#more

Love that photo three kitchen. Very cool butcher block and that looks like my sink.

Soups and stews are wonderful at this time of year especially. I love to make them in the slow cooker.
Which bean soup recipe do you use?

Miranda,

I made it up as I went. Navy and Red beans, water, bay leaf, garlic, cumin, sea salt, Worcestershire, onion, celery, carrot, little bit of ham... it turned out great!

j'adore the images. In winter I love to do boeuf bourgignon or I make a mean spiced pumpkin soup- I never do it exactly the same but it always has onion, garlic, cumin, and cinamin sauteed together before adding the cubed pumpkin- I may also add potato, sweet potato and capsicum + vege stock and when all soft and goey, blend and serve with crusty bread.xxCorrina.

I wrote out a conversion table and taped it to the inside of the cupboard door, over the stove. I will never remember my metric system when cooking !!
My family's favorite winter soup was pasta fagiole which was made without a recipe, just throw everything in .. veggies, pasta and tomatoes.
If there is any stomach upset, soups without beans or cream/milk are better.
So I made chicken soup with rice or macaroni .. lots of carrots and a rich broth ..
