As promised, here is my re-finished French step side table. First, my brother scraped the paint, which was dry, cracked and smelled of cigarettes. Then he sanded the whole thing down and realized that two of the joints were broken. The previous owner had sealed up the cracks with scotch tape.
After a can of spray on KILZ primer, two coats of Chinese Red paint from Behr, some sanding and a final coat of spray on Polyurethane.... Here it is!

Looks great!
It looks fabulous but it's not a French step side table it's an old telephone table. We had one exactly the same when I was a kid (I'm another vintage piece - I'm in my 50s). You sit on the lower part, put the telephone on top and the directories in the "cupboard" underneath.
I love your blog by the way.

it looks fantastic in red. takes it to another dimension. the dimension of awesomeness.
love the red...and the wire panels on the sides...
Perfect!
What a fabulous project, the red just knocks it out of the park! You have a very lovely blog, I look forward to following :) xx
