Postcards from the edge.

I have two vintage postcards framed and up on my living room walls. One is of my husband's and my honeymoon spot, Vernazza, Italy in the Cinque Terre, and the other is a photo of Mills College in 1921, my alma mater. I have dozens of other awesome postcards but lack the number of frames it would take to hang them all. But looky how lovely these displays are below.

Pattern Play

Now is the time in my home decorating saga to get jiggy (and brave) and start throwing down some pattern. I've got all my paint colors picked out, some of which are all ready up on the walls, but the rooms are lacking the punch that that pattern mix and match can provide. Well, not all the rooms - I've got some kickin' kitchen wall paper ready to hang! But anyhoo, here are some pretty pictures to get my juices flowing. Can you tell I'm a little swept away by florals right now?

A home for my booze.

Our new house has a "rec room" that boasts a grody monstrosity of a bar. Rather than swank and retro it looks seedy and overbearing. I'm going to take a sledge hammer to it as soon as I find a sledge hammer. But I do enjoy cocktail hour and I would love to have a place for all my booze. This June post from Design Sponge got me thinking about bar carts. Love the one below found by the Vintage Laundress!

Happy Thanksgiving...

...to all you Americans out there. I was aghast when during a phone call to my father in Scotland last night, he mentioned that he was working today. "Working?" I said "On Thanksgiving?". My father paused. Then I realized, "Oh right... I guess the UK isn't all that interested in our "Welcome-to-the-New World-and-thanks-for-sharing-your-corn-Holiday." But it is Thanksgiving here in Texas and I'd like to wish all of your a beautiful, graceful day filled with good conversation, good people and lovely place settings.

Tush Tush

I found this artist through one of my favorite crafty blogs, Art Nest. The talented Tali of Tush Tush has a bevy of mini masterpieces available through her shop on Etsy. Her work is so detailed and evocative. I want them all. Just lovely!

Brag

Yesterday, my son tried painting for the first time. I pulled out a bunch of old tubes of acrylic paints and let him go wild. By the end of the afternoon he had completed three masterpieces. He titled the painting on bottom, "Orange Train". Okay, brag over. Back to our scheduled programing.

Peacock, peacock, what do you hear?

I've been reading Eric Carle's "Polar Bear, Polar Bear" every night to my son for the past three weeks. He's really into it. His favorite animal is the peacock. We make the sound together and then he says "Butterfly". Then I say "No. Peacock". Then he says "Peacock" in a dejected way that makes me feel like I should have just let him think that the peacock was a butterfly.

Sunday Morning Joe

This is what I'm doing this morning. Coffee. That's it. I've got nothing salient blog about, no one to call, nothing pressing. I'm simply enjoying a big heaping cup of coffee with cream while I watch my two-year-old son play with a wooden train set. Feel free to sit down with us and have a cup.
