Most of the living areas I've been in lately are dominated by a large flat screen TV. I like HBO and Comedy Central just as much as the next person, however, I'm longing for a little more "sit and chat" than these TV rooms allow. Remember sitting rooms? My grandmother always referred to her sitting room as the parlour. I like that word - parlour. Parlour (or parlor), comes from the French word parloir, from parler ("to speak"), and denotes an "audience chamber". That's what I want: a place to sit and see friends.
