Magic Carpets

Why put something bland on your floor when, for just a few thousand dollars, you can have something spectacular? These area rugs have captured my imagination but the price tags are crazy balls. I wonder if you could take a plain flat weave rug and just paint a similar design over top?  No?  Yeah, I thought so.

Of course you can paint! At least if the rug has flat surface (no pile) and it is cotton and you have paints especially for cotton. No problem! You can use stencils or brush, whatever. :) I have done that. BUT genuine Persian rugs aren't always too expensive... if you don't want it to be really old or really fine with great knot thickness. Check eBay.

Sarah- Have you seen Thom Felicia's rugs for Safavieh? I am such a fan. The ones in his hemp series are sustainable, made with fair labor and dyed with vegetable dyes. They are not for the fair-at-heart in color - so bold.

They fibers look coarse, but I've seen them in NYC at theSafavieh showroom and they feel wonderful.
