"Being solitary is being alone well: being alone luxuriously immersed in doings of your own choice, aware of the fullness of your won presence rather than the absence of others. Because solitude is an achievement." - Alice Koller
"On the far shores of solitude, some basic questions find answers." - Alice Koller
Thank you for this. I've always thought of it as a guilty pleasure. As of today, I'm removing the guilt.
ReplyDeleteI love my solitude. It is my natural state, the place where I recharge. I too love people and good conversation, and I'm bubbly and animated much of the time, but I am able to be that because of the time spent renewing in solitude.
ReplyDeleteSolitude is lovely when it is your wish to have it, when you can enjoy it for a time then give it up for a while ..
ReplyDeleteSadly, solitude is not such a treat when it comes upon you unexpectedly and you are sort of stuck with it.

ReplyDeleteYes - I can see that point as well. Solitude when not chosen, when you are as you say "stuck with it" is not desirable either. xo
ReplyDeleteThese are lovely images. Like you, I enjoy my own company and quiet solitude. Great blog.
ReplyDeleteThere is certainly a difference between solitude and lonliness. However lonliness is no exclusive to solitude, as anyone who's experienced it probably knows. I LOVED this blog post and it connects with me deeply. I cherish any moment of solitude I get! I wish I knew you, Sarah!
