The Galley Kitchen

I know that its popular to have a big open concept kitchen with an island, but I've always loved galley kitchens. Perhaps its because I've always lived in older homes and apartments that had galleys. I also love the old style of having a small breakfast nook off one end of the kitchen. If you're thinking of remodeling your galley, remember that you don't have to tear out walls. Keep it simpler and less expensive: upgrade your appliances if you must, rearranging them if that's an issue and upgrade your counter tops, cupboard faces and hardware. Even small kitchens can serve up big functionality.

I love the 1st and 7th and the one with the door/window at the end. All that light !
A galley kitchen can be so great, easy to work in and not a lot of walking back and forth .. which is sort of what I have with a much larger kitchen.
I like those old wooden floors in the last photo :)

Very pretty kitchens! I love the antique red rug with the white and brown cabinets you shared. Incredible before and after.

I wouldn't choose to have a galley kitchen but neither would I choose an open floor plan. These are definitely gorgeous gallies and I would choose these over an open plan.

Im with you, Sarah. I love a galley kitchens and eat in smaller kitchens. I currently live in a newer construction home with an open concept kitchen. We are planning to downsize soon and Im looking forward to having a more private kitchen. After living with an open concept situation I really don't like that my guests and our family can always see any mess going on in the kitchen. Ive learned that Id prefer separate entertaining and living areas. Im looking forward to having that separation.
