Comfy Chair

Everyone needs a special spot for some solitary time - a place to sit, think, read, sip some tea or, as in my case, sit and nurse a baby.  Below, is a photo of the chair in my office.  I bought it at a consignment store last July as a birthday present to myself.  It has some bumps and bruises, but I love it.  It is very comfortable and, I think, beautiful.

P.S. Barcaloungers are comfy, yes - but beautiful, they are not.  They will never ever EVER be beautiful and they don't belong in your home.  This is why God invented Craig's List: somewhere there's a college kid who needs a Lazy Boy to put in front of his play station.  Sell your recliner and instead, opt for something that has both comfort AND style. When it comes to choosing a chair for your own little meditative nook, you might look to some of the following photos for inspiration.

Sarah Saw Something

Time for another weekend installment of Sarah Saw Something - where I share a few things I found interesting this week in the blogosphere.

Raina from If The Lampshade Fits (one of my absolute favorite blogs) is now writing for Curbed National.  Please go read her awesome article about Venus Williams' crack at interior design.  And then head over to her blog to read her interview with Jonathan Adler!  Congrats Raina!

I ran across this nursery at Design Crisis.  This baby bachelor pad belongs to Baby Ike and I love everything about it.

Click HERE to see more photos of Ike's nursery.

And a little shameless self promotion:  We have new items to share in the La Maison Boheme shop!  Take a look when you have a chance.

Mother-Of-Pearl Fruit Boxes and Oval Mirrored Tray

Have a great weekend and I'll see you back here on Monday!

Ikat Cacophony

I'm sure you've seen this photo all over the internet.  Its from a house tour in the January issue of Elle Decor.  I love everything about this house, but the photo below really inspired me.  I love the bold rug, the brash Ikat curtain panels, the gray patterned wallpaper, the miss-matched Ikat throw pillows and the edgy art.  Its a fantastic mix.  I really want this kind of look in my living room.  The thing that most excites me about this look is I think I could pull it off without changing any of my furniture.  Its all walls, floors and curtains. Hmmm....

Here are some beautiful Ikat rug patterns to get me going:

Most of the rugs are from ABC Carpet in NYC.

Reclaiming my Bedroom

I posted a few days ago about creating a shared room for my sons.  They are both on the same sleeping schedule at night, so we thought this would be a good time to make the switch. So far, its working out beautifully.  We are very lucky in that we don't have to store toys in the bedroom - we have a converted garage that serves as a play area.  The boys' bedroom is mostly dedicated to reading, nursing, diaper changing (for the baby) and of course, sleeping.  Here is a before and after of the space:

And here is our reclaimed master bedroom.  Until I figure out what I want to put against this wall, I've placed two brown wicker chairs and a side table I picked up off of Craig's List.  This is formerly the wall where we had the crib.  We also had a changing table in the opposite corner.  Both are now in the boys' room.  The diamond mirror on the wall was a recent find at a vintage consignment store in Dallas and the easel in the corner belonged to my grandmother who was a water colorist.  Its so nice to have our own space again!

Of course, even with a new room of their own,
they still enjoy spending the morning on Mama's bed.

Also, I've been learning how to use my webcam recently so that I can try vlogging.  I did a test run yesterday and posted it to the La Maison Boheme Facebook page.  I've also posted my first vlog to my About page. The response was good, so I thought I'd give it a go for today's post.  I'd like to make La Maison Boheme more personal by posting vlogs in addition to my regular fare.  Dear readers, I'd love to hear your thoughts.  (If you don't care for video blogging, feel free to say so.  But please be kind and remember that I'm a mama to two little ones and I do all my blogging before 9am.  Meaning, my look is casual - even pajama-like,  and the coffee hasn't quite kicked in yet.  XO)

Side Table

Please stop buying side tables from Target and IKEA... and Pottery Barn too, while we're at it.  The thrift and consignment stores of America are filled with side tables and side table possibilities.  Just keep your mind open about what might serve as a jaunty side table.  A stack of books?  And old children's desk?  A collection of suitcases?  The possibilities are endless!

Tile and Textile

Once again, I am completely seduced into the world of heavily layered and ornate spaces.  I guess, I'm just not meant for simple, clean interiors.  I love Swedish and modern design as much as the next girl, but my Bohemain heart beats a little faster when I see photos like the ones below.

The Horse Art Trend

I'm on the fence.  At first I thought, "Oooh, very cool!"  Then I remembered all that dolphin art from the 80's.  Is the horse art phenomenon going to go the way of airbrushed sea mammal art?  (Granted, the pieces below are far more attractive than the dolphin stuff.)  So, dear readers - Are you into it, or not?  What are your thoughts?
